On Friday, June 24th residents of the Green Chimneys New York City LGBTQ Youth Program were joined by fashion designer INDASHIO to help them give their Pride Day t-shirts personality and flair. The NYC designer generously created the concept for this year’s Green Chimneys Pride shirt, which was worn by more than 50 Green Chimneys residents and staff as they marched in the 42nd Annual NYC LGBT Pride March on Sunday, June 26th.
“Our residents we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to meet INDASHIO in person and get tips on stylizing their shirts,” said Theresa Nolan, Green Chimneys NYC Program Director. “We have a creative group here and having the chance to express themselves is an important part of demonstrating their pride in who they are.”
INDASHIO spent the afternoon working with the Green Chimneys participants using paint, ribbon, markers, pins and other embellishments. The young adults proudly displayed their creations as they marched in Sunday’s event.
The NYC Division of Green Chimneys (GCNYC) is dedicated to creating safe spaces for LGBTQ youth who are homeless or in foster care through supportive residences, educational and career development initiatives, and life skills training. Through these services, youth are empowered and equipped with vital skills and resources to help them enter adulthood as healthy, responsible members of their communities.
