Admissions Criteria
Children considered for Green Chimneys’ therapeutic programs are youth aged 6-16 upon admission, who are struggling with a variety of social, emotional and behavioral challenges related to:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Bipolar Disorder
- Impulse Control Disorder
- Mood Disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Reactive Attachment Disorder
- School Phobia and Refusal
Our students typically fall under these NYS Education Classifications:
- Autism
- Emotional Disability
- Learning Disability
- Multiple Disabilities
- Other Health Impaired
Green Chimneys accepts students from school districts across New York State and Connecticut. Admission is based on school district or agency referral and the individual needs of the child. Day and residential program costs are covered by the home school district.
While we would like to be a resource for all children with special needs, we are not appropriately equipped to provide treatment for children who display active fire setting, problematic sexualized behavior, active psychosis or substance abuse, or who have past or current criminal behavior/adjudication.
We are unable to provide appropriate treatment for children with IQ below 80.
Children referred with severe medical conditions or physical disabilities are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, in order to assess our ability to meet their medical needs.

School district referral is required ahead of application to our program. Tours are offered following student referral, and upon determination of program appropriateness for the student’s individual needs.
