Program Overview

In conjunction with its accredited special education program, Green Chimneys offers residential treatment for students who face social, emotional, learning and behavioral challenges. The Residential Treatment Center (RTC) at our Brewster campus is home to 102 youth who reside in a state-of-the-art dorm complex with gender-inclusive living units based on age, social and emotional development, and target behaviors.

The RTC team consists dedicated staff members providing administration and direct care services. Staff is trained to assist in trauma-informed crisis management, social skills building, activities of daily living, and development of self-regulation skills. We provide 24-hour supervision and support to ensure children’s safety within a therapeutic milieu that allows each child to participate in an array of beneficial activities as part of their individualized treatment plan.

Residents attend Green Chimneys School and participate in all school activities with their day program peers. They follow a 12-month academic program and the Residential Treatment Center coordinates treatment between the school and residence.

Education, residential, and clinical staff interface in interdepartmental meetings for each child, including:

  • Monthly treatment check-in based on individual need
  • Quarterly treatment team meetings
  • Red Flag Reviews (as needed)
  • Annual reviews with the Committee on Special Education
