At Green Chimneys, students with special needs learn to ride, care for and connect with equines as part of a comprehensive nature-based education experience and treatment plan. And as a PATH International Premier Accredited Center, we are committed to providing quality equine-assisted educational programs. Volunteers work alongside staff, directly support the care of equines, and interact with students.
As a special education school and residential treatment center, all Green Chimneys volunteers are required to:
We are recruiting volunteers to join our Horse Barn team on weekdays, including mornings, late afternoons, and evenings. Typically scheduled between the hours of 8:30am-2pm or 2:30-8pm. Shifts are a minimum of four hours.

Crowned the best for falconry in medieval times, gyrfalcons were once reserved for kings. As the largest falcon in the world, with exquisite plumage ranging from bright white to deep charcoal, gyrs are revered for their powerful skill of flight. Their long wings make hunting waterfowl from 3,000-feet-high a feasible and fantastical feat. This falcon was flown in the sport of falconry for several years.
